Curious or Concern?
I am not an outer space alien and have never been abducted by one.
I do like Star Trek so perhaps that will calm some of your fears.
Let’s cover this topic and some of the thinking options it demands. I’d like to approach this is a sensible manner. Perhaps we can boldly go where some but not all have gone before? And the new Steven Spielberg film, Disclosure Day, is riding the wave of alien disclosures.
New Disclosures
Recent disclosures from the United States Department of Defense and growing public discussion surrounding UFOs—or what the government now calls UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena)—have reignited one of humanity’s oldest questions: Are we alone in the universe? More declassified data is being released. There appears to be more surprises coming out, too.
For many Christians, the topic immediately raises concern. Some assume any non-human intelligence must be demonic. Others fear that proof of extraterrestrial life would somehow undermine the Bible or weaken the Christian faith. But neither fear nor sensationalism is necessary.
The opening words of Scripture remain the starting point for any serious Christian discussion of the unknown:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
That foundational truth changes everything. If any intelligent beings exist anywhere in the universe—whether known or unknown to humanity—they too would ultimately be part of God’s creation and under His sovereign authority. The God of the Bible is not merely the God of Earth. He is the Creator of all things visible and invisible, known and unknown, across all time, space, and eternity.

What’s Out there?
Over the past several years, formerly classified military footage, pilot testimony, and congressional hearings have pushed the UFO topic back into mainstream discussion. Navy pilots have described encounters with aerial objects displaying unusual flight characteristics, and government agencies have acknowledged that some incidents remain unexplained.
But “unexplained” does not automatically mean “extraterrestrial.”
That distinction is critical.
Human history is filled with events initially attributed to the supernatural or unknown. Some UAP reports may eventually prove to involve atmospheric phenomena, sensor anomalies, classified military technology, foreign adversary systems, or simple human misinterpretation. Christians should resist the temptation to leap immediately into speculative conclusions. Intellectual honesty requires acknowledging uncertainty where uncertainty exists. At the same time, Christians also need not fear the possibility that the universe may contain realities humanity has not yet fully understood.
The Bible and the Vastness of Creation
Modern astronomy has revealed a universe of staggering scale. Billions of galaxies stretch across incomprehensible distances, each containing billions of stars and potentially countless planets. Far from weakening belief in God, the immensity and fine-tuning of the cosmos can strengthen the argument for divine creation. Furthermore, scientific naturalism advocates that the material universe is all there is. No God, just time plus chance plus matter is the final explanation. Yet, due to the mounting evidence for intelligent design spanning from DNA all the way to origins of the universe, science forces us back to a Creator.
Scripture repeatedly emphasizes the majesty and scope of God’s creative power:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” — Psalm 19:1
The Apostle Paul writes:
“For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.” — Colossians 1:16
That verse is especially important in this discussion. Christianity already recognizes realities beyond ordinary human perception. The biblical worldview includes angels, demons, spiritual beings, and unseen dimensions of existence. The Christian faith inaturalistic materialism understanding of reality.
At the same time, the Bible’s primary purpose is not to provide an exhaustive catalog of every created thing in the universe. Scripture is God’s revelation concerning humanity, sin, redemption, and our relationship with Him. The Bible tells us what we need to know for salvation and truth—not necessarily everything that exists in creation.
Could God Have Created Other Intelligent Beings?
This is where careful theological thinking becomes important. The Bible nowhere explicitly states that humanity is the only intelligent life God ever created. It focuses primarily on Earth and mankind because the biblical narrative concerns human redemption history.
C. S. Lewis explored this possibility thoughtfully in works such as Out of the Silent Planet. Lewis speculated that God could have created other intelligent races elsewhere in creation. Some may never have fallen into sin. Others, if fallen, might have experienced forms of redemption uniquely suited to them by their Creator. Lewis did not present this as doctrine, nor should Christians. But the concept itself is not inherently incompatible with biblical theology.
If God created other beings, they too would belong to Him. Christianity does not collapse if the universe proves more populated than humanity once imagined. In fact, if true, the existence of additional created beings would simply expand the scope of God’s glory, creativity, and sovereignty.
Possible Explanations for UFO and UAP Phenomena
When approaching the UFO issue, Christians should consider all reasonable possibilities carefully and rationally.
1. Misidentification or Natural Phenomena
Many sightings likely result from ordinary causes:
- atmospheric distortions
- optical illusions
- classified aircraft
- instrument errors
- psychological factors
- mistaken interpretation
This explanation undoubtedly accounts for a significant percentage of reports.
2. Advanced Human Technology
Some incidents may involve highly advanced military technologies developed by the United States or foreign governments. History demonstrates that classified aerospace projects often remain hidden from the public for decades.
Again, caution and humility are warranted before reaching extraordinary conclusions.
3. Extraterrestrial Biological Life
Could intelligent extraterrestrial life exist somewhere in God’s vast universe? Does a Christian perspective on UFOs give us some answers?
Possibly.
The sheer scale of the cosmos makes the question understandable. Yet even if extraterrestrial beings were someday discovered, their existence would not threaten the Christian worldview. In fact, parts of the the soon to be released classified reports allegedly state that four different types of humanoid species were found at various crash sites. Bodies and not just space ships. Now that, if true, is interesting.
Why?
Because they too would ultimately be created beings. The central biblical truth would remain unchanged: God alone is eternal. God alone is uncreated. God alone is sovereign over all creation. Any and all of the created order of the universe comes from Him. Nothing exists without Him creating it. Nothing. From every atom to every universe to every solar system to every star to every sentient being with a soul to every created or living thing, God and God alone is its source. The bible may be vague or silent on some details but not the starting point of all the material or living universe.
4. Spiritual or Demonic Activity
Some Christians interpret UFO phenomena primarily through a demonic lens. Scripture certainly teaches the reality of spiritual deception and fallen spiritual beings.
However, this explanation also raises logical questions.
If demons are spiritual beings already capable of influencing humanity directly, why would they require physical spacecraft, interstellar travel, propulsion systems, metallic structures, or biological occupants in order to interact with Earth. Why would spiritual entities need technology? Some posit that AI may be the starting point of a “digital antichrist” or the coming antichrist that takes over the world till Christ’s return. Speculative, but this idea does surface from time to time in eschatological and end times discussions.
That question does not eliminate the possibility of spiritual deception surrounding some experiences. Human beings can certainly be deceived psychologically or spiritually. But reducing every unexplained phenomenon to demonic alien visitation may oversimplify both theology and objective observation.
Christians should be careful not to move beyond what Scripture clearly teaches or what Scripture is silent on. Some things we just, don’t, know. And, perhaps in God’s infinite wisdom, we don’t need to know at this point in the time-line of the created universe.
Reports of Recovered Biological Entities
Part of the modern UFO discussion includes claims from former military personnel, intelligence officials, and whistleblowers alleging that recovered craft may have contained non-human biological remains or biologic entities. Some reports even speculate about different forms or types of beings allegedly associated with various incidents.
At present, however, the public has not been presented with conclusive, independently verified evidence proving such claims beyond dispute. Christians should therefore approach the subject with both openness and caution.
If such biologic beings were ever definitively proven to exist, several possibilities would still remain:
- they could represent unknown natural life forms,
- advanced extraterrestrial biological entities,
- engineered or artificial organisms,
- misidentified phenomena,
- or something not yet understood within current scientific categories.
Let’s wait and see what such post mortem evidence is disclosed before we jump to conclusions. Seeing might be believing in this case but too soon to tell.
One Foundational Truth
But from a biblical perspective, one foundational truth would remain unchanged: any physical biological life form that exists would ultimately be part of God’s created order.
Scripture consistently teaches that God is the creator of all life, all matter, and all existence:
“For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.” — Colossians 1:16
Fear Is Not a Christian Response
Throughout history, scientific discoveries have repeatedly challenged human assumptions about the universe. Yet Christianity has endured because truth ultimately belongs to God.
The Christian faith survived the discovery that Earth was not the center of the solar system. It survived modern astronomy, genetics, and countless technological revolutions. It will survive future discoveries as well. In fact, many of those discoveries strengthened the biblical worldview. As time goes on, the bible and science compliment each other.
No discovery in the heavens can dethrone the Creator of the heavens. Science, time and time again, endorses the handywork of God.
For Christians, the ultimate question is not whether intelligent life may exist elsewhere in creation. The deeper question is whether humanity is reconciled to the God who made the universe in the first place. We must act on what we know and what has been revealed to us through scripture.
Human beings have always looked toward the skies searching for answers. But Scripture points us beyond the stars themselves to the One who spoke them into existence.
Whether the mysteries in our skies ultimately prove to be misunderstood natural phenomena, advanced technology, spiritual deception, or even undiscovered created life, one truth remains unchanged:
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
The God of Scripture is not threatened by the unknown.
He is sovereign over it.
As a take on what Spock in Star Trek should have said, “Live long in Christ and you will eternally prosper”.
UFO talk always mentions, “We are not alone.” Yet with Christ, we are never alone…
